Be careful of their surfboards. I purchased a DHD which ended up getting a dinged rail, When I sent it to a professional shaper to get fixed he discovered there were 10 soft spots along the rail (not just where I had dinged it) After a light sand he said there was no fibre glass on the rails and was a clear manufacturers fault. Unfortunately for me this wasn't my daily driver so didn't hurry to get it fixed, it just sat in my garage and 10 months had gone by before sending it to get repaired and realising the fault. Because of this time Backdoor didn't want to know about it, even with a video from the shaper. Spewing, boards only been surfed a handful of times. The guy on the phone had said these are mass produced out of china. Lesson learned, I'll stick to my local shaper! Check those rails for soft spots!
Big thumbs up to the staff at Takapuna who were able to do a phone sale for me and help me out after I had a crap experience with the online team. I had bought a surfskate online but didn't hear anything for ages. When I emailed they said the surfskate I wanted was out of stock (despite showing as in stock at a number of stores) and just refunded my money. They never got back to me after I made another enquiry to see if I could get a different one so it was a pretty annoying experience I didn't really trust trying to buy anything else online. However, when I rung the guys at Takapuna they sorted me out, it arrived quickly and now I'm stoked with my new board.
Great selection of well priced Surf and Skate gear. I've bought a wetsuit, and then more recently a skateboard from Backdoor. In both cases, I really appreciated the service and advice I received. In each case, the staff were able to listen to what I wanted, and offer up really good advice. Lots of selection for surf and skate boards. Lots of longer skate boards too.
Bought a FireWire Mechado Seaside. Great service and sales experience, thank you. This board is unbelievable, its got more pros than cons than any board I’ve ridden, it doesn’t seem right. Paddles amazing, super fast connecting sections but turns on a dime, digs in and predictably releases the tail. Only one of 3 “magic boards” I’ve ever owned.
