The counsellor wasn’t helpful at all, there wasn’t any acknowledgment of my tears when I cried, and she didn’t even offer me a tissue. Instead of asking good leading questions there were lots of long drawn out moments of silence and on top of that she didn’t give me any good advice whatsoever, I can’t just suddenly pretend that I don’t have things to worry about to improve my mental health, which really was her only advice to me. She also didn’t remember anything about me from our first session and when it came time to end the session instead of saying that we had run out of time she instead decided to hint three times that she wanted me to leave so I ended up just walking out in tears. No comfort, no advice, no suggestion of meeting in the future, just listening to my problems without any acknowledgment which sends the message that you don’t care at all. If you don’t comfort, acknowledge, or advice someone struggling after they expressing that they’re struggling in any when that person specifically sought out help from you, that really just sends the message that you don’t care about their life. I have already had bad experiences with mental health professionals in the past so I wasn’t sure about booking this meeting in the first place and now my negative experience here has just reinforced that belief, which is that there’s no point in trying to get help because there isn’t anyone who will care or understand you.

The nurses and receptionists are lovely and genuine, however my various experiences with the GPs were very disappointing. Consistently met with miscommunication, judgemental remarks and never happy to hear patients out before charging for more appointments and medication without much consultation. As a university student service, it seems hypocritical that there is little to no understanding of student timetables. When discussing appointment times and busy schedules the doctor was telling me to just “make time” and wouldn’t budge on a date further next week. Further, the price for students compared to quality of service just doesn’t match up. Hoping they improve :/

It takes you a month or two to schedule an GP appointment. Many miscommunication with reception. Dismissive until it is an emergency. Not equipped to handle emergency and mishandles student wellbeing and privacy. Convenient it is on campus but atrocious service. Great nurses and facility.

Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk at the University Health and Counselling Service has been extremely disappointing. Despite approaching the receptionist politely, I was met with rude remarks and an unhelpful attitude. I don’t know her name, but she was a brown receptionist. What struck me was the complete lack of basic courtesy. It felt like simply showing up was an inconvenience to her. On one occasion, I arrived a bit late (literally few minutes), which I understand is not ideal, but instead of handling it with understanding or professionalism, she acted like it was a personal offense, started making rude comments on me and just kept asking me to pay the cancellation fee first. We all have difficult days, but that doesn’t excuse treating people poorly, especially in a healthcare environment where empathy and respect should be the standard. This wasn’t a one-time incident either. Each time I’ve interacted with her, her behavior has been increasingly hostile and judgmental. It makes an already stressful experience even more uncomfortable. Receptionists are the first point of contact, and their role is to support and assist, not make students feel unwelcome. I sincerely hope the university considers better training in customer service and emotional intelligence for their front desk staff. Students deserve to be treated with respect.

I had a counselling session today with Ana Sharpe and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Rather than feeling supported, I left the session feeling worse than before. Throughout the appointment, Ms. Sharpe appeared disengaged. At times, she slowly closed her eyes as if she were falling asleep, and on one occasion, she hunched over with her head in her hands while speaking. This made it difficult to feel heard or respected. When I tried to explain the challenges I’ve been facing, her responses came across as dismissive. She interrupted me mid-sentence, misinterpreted what I was trying to say, and made comments that felt judgmental rather than empathetic. At one point, she questioned whether I was truly stressed, as though stress only counts if it comes with extreme physical symptoms. This kind of invalidation was incredibly disheartening. The advice I received felt surface-level and generic, things like drinking more water, exercising, and searching the internet for tips. I didn’t feel like there was any meaningful engagement with what I was actually experiencing. Overall, the session left me feeling judged and discouraged about seeking help in the future. Counselling should be a space where people feel understood, not second-guessed or dismissed.

I don't believe I've ever used any organisation in any capacity that is more unfit for purpose. There are really only three possibilities here: - the staff are extremely poorly trained and poorly treated - the university are deliberately misleading its students - the staff are bad faith actors UHCS has not helped my health - in contrast, they have been an active hindrance, effectively paywalling me until I decide to register with a different clinic. Every interaction is fraught with the idea that you, as a customer and as a patient, are wasting their time. If you are in any way unusual or require special attention, you will be referred elsewhere as lazily as possible. To top it all off they're only dealing with urgent matters right now. Do not trust them with so much as a broken toenail.

I recently called the University Health and Counselling Service and was extremely disappointed with my experience. The staff were unprofessional and seemed disinterested in helping me. The wait time was unbearable and I felt like just another number in a long line. The staff weren't willing to help and weren't providing me details. Overall, I would not recommend this service to anyone and would advise seeking help elsewhere.

I had such a terrible experience here last year similar to the other reviews I was in need of a prescription and they stuffed me around for so long I had to pay a lot of money at the pharmacy to get what I need without the prescription. It was so hard to find a appointment and then when I finally got one the nurse was extremely rude and argumentative and made me feel uncomfortable lecturing and blaming me. However the young receptionist is great and I haven’t experienced trouble with doctors only this nurse

Tried to make an appointment with my GP one week before my prescription medication ran out. It took over a week for a slot to become available and I was left without prescription meds for 5 days. I was told that I would need an appointment before they continue to dispense medication that I've been on for over two years now, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. During these 5 days I suffered from withdrawals and the doctors didn't even care to give me a short prescription to cover that 5 day shortfall in which I wouldn't have my medication. Such a poor healthcare service, I would honestly rather pay more for competent healthcare with GPs and nurses who actually care about their patients health and well-being.
