wish i saw these reviews before paying $500 for an initial consultation, although, a psychiatrist telling me they are โ€œpsychologically-mindedโ€ and believes that medications/diagnoses are handed out too freely and easily should have been a red flag. if youโ€™re looking for comprehensive psychiatric care with a provider who listens to you and believes you about your own mental health, go elsewhere. PS - he also uses A.I to take his notes, which i find odd. what am i paying you for if youโ€™ll let an A.I decide what is important about my appointment to remember?

Extremely poor communication from individuals who work in a very sensitive and fragile area of peopleโ€™s lives. If youโ€™re in serious need of help or at risk, do not contact these people.

I have followed Dr Emmerton through his last three clinics. As an expat it was initially confusing for me to understand the NZ mental health system when I needed it most. He was understanding and kind in explaining all of my options and the best avenues for supplemental treatments with other specialists. He also has been extremely helpful when it comes to communication with other doctors like my GP and psychologist. Years ago he helped me combat a really dark period in my life and took the time to trial different medications accompanied by blood tests until we found the right fit. Now I am in a stable place and I see him for yearly check-ins with the ultimate goal of reducing the medications that are no longer needed as much. His office has always been friendly and easy to make appointments with.

After being diagnosed with ADHD by another psychiatrist, I came to Dr Emmerton wanting help adjusting my medication. He immediately undiagnosed me with ADHD based on how I spoke and presented myself. He did no testing and only asked me to talk about my past. He is clearly very biased as he said he believes 98% of people diagnosed with ADHD do not actually have it. He did not do a proper assessment and clearly came into the room with his mind made up. I definitely would not recommend!

Please avoid! Negative stars if I could. I had a deeply disappointing experience at the Seneca Clinic with Campbell Emmerton. The ADHD assessment I received felt rushed, dismissive, and biased. I was met with preconceived assumptions, cultural stereotyping, and irrelevant questioning. Rather than receiving a thorough evaluation, I was subjected to VERY judgmental and hurtful remarks (implying I wanted "validation" for my self diagnosis and that I must have wanted "performance boosters" out of nowhere) and inaccurate reporting. He has a condescending attitude and doesn't seem to listen at all. The follow-up advice was generic and unhelpful, and I was denied access to my OWN test results without sacrificing part of my assessment package. This experience left me more distressed than supported. I would NOT recommend this clinic to others seeking compassionate or competent mental health care. Especially not their ADHD assessment which as of writing this review, they've removed from their website! Please look somewhere else if you want to find a psychiatrist and clinic who actually want to help you.
