I went to this shop on a whim and have 0 regrets. After being misquoted by another mechanic shop, Highbrook Automotive gave me in depth insight into the issue at hand, and had great communication throughout the repairs being done. My new go-to mechanic!
Had a botched brake hose job done at another shop and since this shop is near my workplace and has been recommended by colleagues, I took a chance to 'walk-in' to get a consult and Stan accommodated my needs despite no booking to see if it's a quick job (sub-hour) to squeeze in. Highly recommended! Of course try to still book when you can bec the shop is quite busy.
The owner of Highbrook Automotive has to be one of the least helpful, greedy and dishonest tradesperson I have met. I booked a car in for a pre-purchase inspection for the 9th of January and they insisted to get it to them first thing in the morning, 8:30am. The seller was driving the car down from Swanson, which was mentioned and the mechanics showed up to the appointment late. They only started taking a look at the car at 9am and seemed taken aback that we wanted to wait for the inspection to be completed. After inspection, they had a long list of potential faults of the car. A few of those faults had already been fixed in a WoF that same week (7th January) which I found suspicious. I asked for a verdict on the car and if it was worth the purchase (it is an old car so I was aware it wouldn’t be perfect). They did not give me a clear answer and when I asked for an estimate on how much the repairs would cost the owner wanted to charge me an additional 60 dollars, which I found ridiculous since I had already spent 130 dollars on the inspection. He couldn’t answer many of my questions and only admitted to not knowing much about diesel engines and only really doing simple maintenance from his garage after the transaction was completed. The owner had the nerve to tell me to go to a diesel mechanic “with a high rating on google”. Upon arriving at a diesel mechanic, the owner there quoted 90 dollars for the inspection at the same level that Highbrook Automotive had done, including a quote. They didn’t have the time to do the inspection that day, however after mentioning that the seller had driven from Swanson they accommodated by doing a quick 20 minute inspection and test drive. They refused to take money for this, telling me to book an appointment for a proper inspection at a later date. This goes to show the difference between a tradesperson who is only seeking money and looking after themselves and a tradesperson who seeks to help their customers in the best way they can. I would steer away anyone thinking of using Highbrook Automotive as they are not trustworthy. One of the “fixes” listed on the sheet they gave me was talcum powder, using it to hide an issue with the belts. This experience leads me to believe they are willing to cut corners when maintaining your car. I would not feel safe leaving any vehicles with them and I am glad we stayed there for the inspection.
I can’t thank the team at Highbrook Automotive enough! They went above and beyond to help me on Christmas Eve, treating me with such kindness and making the whole experience enjoyable with great chat, lots of laughs, and big smiles all around. The WOF check was super quick and easy – I was in and out in no time. The online booking system made everything so convenient too. Highly recommend these legends for their amazing service and great vibes!
Had some issues with my brakes and was very worried about getting the car back home from East Tamaki back to Mt Eden so popped in to check if it was OK, the guy behind the counter said all my brakes were rubbish (never had an issue for 4 years) and then proceeded to tell me how he’s not supposed to be talking to me?! and I’d have to wait till the next day to take a Quick Look. if it’s OK to get back home. Incredibly rude and unhelpful. If this is what their customer service is like I wouldn’t recommend.

Great, friendly customer service. Efficient. Practical and affordable pricing. Got a full service, WOF and some extras. They went the extra mile and even got rid of the blue paint that stained my white car on the house. The blue paint stain is totally gone as if it weren’t there at all. These guys have served me well over the last 3-4 years. Highly recommend:)
Had a small problem with my motorbike, and these guys went out of there way to help me solve the problem(which they did). They were friendly and professional and cannot recommend them enough. They really help me out of a situation. Thank you
Took our car in there on a Friday to get looked at as we aren’t from Auckland and were doing a Roady around NZ- the car needed looked at ASAP as we had a deadline to meet. We went to other mechanics that we had been suggested with no luck, did a quick google and came across Highbrook Automotive - they took it in no stress. Couldn’t have asked for a more friendly and professional team. Great to deal with and super helpful - so pleased we went there and was very very impressed - would highly recommend!!
