My Mrs and I came to the ER reporting serious symptoms including a shortness of breath, a sharp chest pain that radiates to her back late in the night. She had her ECG and Xray about three to four hours after admission while still experiencing those symptoms mentioned above. The staff showed no urgency, and were unhelpful at all. When asked about receiving treatment in the morning approximately 7 hours after admission, one of the nurses had stated that one doctor was tending to a patient and was busy. Approximately an hour later after a handover, we had asked the morning nurses to which they replied that there was no doctor due to understaffing. There was a complete lack in communication and urgency. Hospitals are a place for treatment and the promotion of care. Truly a disappointing experience.

Had an eye infection and was going blurry blind in one eye. I understand it might not be the most urgent to them, but they dismissed my feelings, and the nurse at the reception was SO rude. In such a passive-aggressive tone she asked why I'm here, and once I told her, she sighed and started whispering to the other nurse next to her. So rude, no one should feel dismissed in a hospital. I also found it quite interesting how she acted like this to me (I'm an Asian 18-year-old), and then the next person that went up to her complaining about a sore eye (a European female), her attitude switched up, and she was all smiley and kind. If i can remember the nurses name was somewhat along the lines of "Lucy" but im not quite sure as it was a month ago. But very rude staff and i don't know if it was intended as racism.

I was assaulted by Security staff and I found the nursing staff - while clearly under resourced and underpaid by this joke of a government - lacking in empathy in the emergency department. Empathy shouldn’t be dispensed based on funding from Te Whatu Ora. I think maybe some of the nurses in ED should go back on the wards for a while. The stress on them is impacting patient care. This place borders on third world and it’s not totally the fault of the people on the ground. But as patients, you’re the faces we see. Think more, say less and remember that anyone with a brain is susceptible to mental illness in exactly the same way as anyone with lungs is susceptible to a pneumonia. As the result of a stroke, my extreme anxiety is organic in cause. But these people: a doctor with a North American accent who doesn’t know New Zealand law, several of the nurses and the security staff all stigmatised me. Having lived many years in Australia and the UK, I have to say the care in New Zealand is decades behind the rest of the western world especially in mental health. Is it better than Janet Frame and countless voiceless others suffered in earlier decades? Absolutely! Do staff at Auckland City Hospital in 2023 abuse and assault mental health patients? Also absolutely! and just as in Janet Frame’s day we were a third world backwater where the research took a long time to filter through a resistant and self-satisfied culture, so we are today alas.

Waste of time, they have only 2 doctors in night shift and avg waiting time is 10 hours. Waiting time in day is around 4 to 7 hours. Better to find a private hospital.

Presenting with a numb spine and electric shocks in my spine and complications after surgery and denied treatment or any investigations . The symptoms are bad a scan should have been done and now I'm getting worse . That us malpractice if you result in further injury or loss of income !! It's my spine . Also told nothing neurological but I have already been diagnosed with something neurological also got put in for gallbladder removal and then just before I went for surgery the nurse checked me again and said I didn't need the surgery . Dodgy as and really bad doctor's that can't even check you properly and diagnose you ! Also favoritung certain people !

Could give them zero stars if I had to. The nurse who came in was so racist. A lady has been crying for over an hour and these security guys are just all looking at her and laughing, making comments like she is possessed. Joke of a place, more like a circus like some others here have described. I better say to people have health insurance and go to private hospitals, maybe something might improve, here all you see is waste of tax payers money!!

This is the worst medical places ever. There’s always a wait time of 10 hours. Health care industry is one of the most paid industries in newzealand. But all i saw was people staff siting in the corner of the offices and other areas resting relaxing and chatting of their personal stuff. -My partner was really unwell she could barely breath, pain and barley holding up. - many other patients left after staying in the waiting room for more than 7 to 8 hours. - more than 3 hours to get an ice pack and never got them. - been here 3 times for the past few months for emergencies every single time the had only 1 doctor as they mentioned and shes trying to do things better I don’t know if this is true but I’ve heard that the hospitals keep patients waiting due to they have to show some sort of proof so that they can get funds from government or something but again i don’t know if its true
