    I have cancelled my policy with them as they have started rejecting claims and evidence forms that they have previously accepted in the years I have been with them. The policy offered by my union is more expensive, but at least it isn't a whole song and dance to get paid out... EDIT: Thank you for your reply, but I have already contacted you and we spent almost two weeks going back and forth. Your customer service is a huge part of the reason I decided to cancel my policy.

    I googled southern cross to join up my ageing parents for health coverage. However, The reviews are brutal. Southern Cross needs to do some damage control, I'm taking my parents elsewhere.

    Had a claim for $900 approved for a small surgery which ended up being double the cost due to a sudden change mid surgery which I had to pay on the spot. Currently sitting on a 13 business day wait period with no update on the claim. Customer service is constantly giving me 2 day work around timeframes which keeps being relayed every second day I’ve been calling up. 7 business days is just straight up BS. Anything over $200 will never be accepted in that timeframe.. I have a horrible feeling this isn’t going to go well. Will be cancelling my policy once I receive the outcome, whenever this may be.

    Declined covering my specialist follow up appointment because it had to be within 6 months from the surgery procedure. The surgery was on the 13th of January and the follow up appointment on the 15th of July. 2 days from the 6 months mark and they declined coverage, really disappointing and inhumane. My policy says I have 5k balance for specialist and they still declined anyway.

    These people are not the good guys. Locked my account for nothing then stonewalled when I tried to communicate in good faith to resolve. No matter how much money you think you will save with Southern Cross or peace of mind you think you will get you simply wont. They are not there for you when you need your cover: they're denying, blocking, and stonewalling you. Just pay the money for what you need. This system does not work. Update for fairness: I got a useful next-day contact from Southern Cross that explained why they locked me out and what I can do. I get the impression the people do want to help. But my experience of how their system works is it puts you round in circles. Perhaps not malicious design. But definitely not easy to use. I shouldn't ever have to slam a company publicly just to gain the chance to communicate, for instance. It is what it is. But I hold hope that SC can figure out how to be great. Thanks for the complaints form, but you can simply learn from my experience using this public post.

    Rang today for a possible plan change as getting very expensive. Need two wages to afford it. Automated phone message said half an hour wait time so went on line and requested call back. That was at 1pm and no call returned. Can't wait for my automatic apology as all responses read the same. Been with them since 2003. Their motto " here for you". Really?

    Very poor service. I sadly have to agree with some other reviews regarding loading pre-existing conditions so they can find a way out of claims. Basically not worth the money. Currently convincing my wife not to waste her time and stop paying money with little chance of ever having a claim approved. I'd rather gamble $150 a month and take my chances.

    If only I could give no stars. I applied for a prior approval for a critical major surgery and they took so long to respond that I had to move my surgery date. Once they finally got through, they declined on the basis that my condition was pre-existing even though all my test results showed otherwise. Southern Cross only cares about money, not the people. I quit them the very same day. I will never recommend them to anyone. Save your money, do your research and go through a good insurance company that puts your health first.

    I have heard good reviewns about SC, so when I started a new job that offered helth insurance benefits, I was excited about moving my plan to Southern Cross. However, I was really disappointed when I learned that every symptom I had listed in the application form was listed as pre existing condition, even though it has never been diagnosed as such by any specialist. I deeply regreted being so honest in the application form and it is no surprise that I gave up moving to SC. Random symptoms like headache should never be included as pre existing condition worhout a diagnosis.

    -Relating to travel insurance- If you're traveling I would strongly advise NOT to use southern cross. For the purpose of this review, I'll keep it as short as possible. Firstly, only once we were on our holiday we booked a year in advance, did we find out they did not include the countries we had planned to travel to but rather some random countries we did not advise upon nor travel to. We are currently spending SOO much time following this up. We paid a decent sum of money to cover nothing??. They had ONE job. Secondly, only one person we interacted with (a nurse) happened to show any sort of empathy once I had advised we had given up on southern cross and would travel home at our own risk for medical attention. I prefer this doesn't happen to anyone else so proceed with caution.
