BNZ uses this insurance company for their Platinum CC holders which gives complimentary 3mths travel insurance to those having one, however having gone for an extra 5 days over I paid nearly $800 for the insurance. I have had exactly the same response with them as others and that is they appear to make the process as arduous as possible continuing to ask the same questions over and over again, or worse still, failing to understand the crux of the claim. They also do not have a public-facing office which you can visit to sort these ongoing issues out - how convenient! If you phone the waits are long. AIG only decided to pay out on my claim after I said I would be making a formal complaint to BNZ. This is absolutely unacceptable behaviour from an insurance company who is more than happy to accept your premium but then ensures any claim is as difficult as possible, no doubt in the hope that the claimant will give up.

Put in a claim for cancelled flight. Collected all information and added it in during application process. Responded a week or two later asking for the exact same information provided again. So I had to go back through statements again to send exact same info. Seems like an obvious strategy to be a pain so less people go through with claim. Even though I get free travel insurance with them I'll likely book and pay extra with a company that isn't dodgy in the future.

Trying to set up insurance for my new business and the guy over the phone was extremely rude and made sure that we knew he was not pleased with us. Decided not to go with them - if they're trying to sell the insurance and they sound like this, can you imagine trying to sort out an insurance claim? No thank you

Worse of the worse travel insurance company I've dealt with. If possible I would like to give it a 0 star. Super slow response to my every single email, unfair conditions to satisfy the entitlement..... unreasonable calculation. What a incompetent insurance company. Do not know why ASB partner with it?

The claim process takes forever, they say the wait time takes 3-10 working days but every 10 days I received a comment on what's missing or what else is needed and the drag on for another 10 days although I have submitted details. I was truly disappointed at their efficiency and attitude towarda helping their clients consider I lodged the claim in early December and now we are at end of January.

AMI insurance claiming process for your reference: 1. Claiming started on 28th June, AMI/IAG only started requesting Police Report on 24th July (for nearly a month for them to initiate this request). Would you call it an intentional delay of claiming process? 2. According to Canstar, Many policies do not require you to pay an excess if you are not at fault and you have the details of the at-fault driver. And here you needed us to pay excess. What does the term "Comprehensive" means in your car policy? 3. AMI says: `This can be a lengthy process depending on the level of investigation the police need to do, and if the offender was caught and is going through the court process.` ie, as a victim of myself, you will like your customer to fork out all the expenses while AMI keeps all your excess while waiting for the court to finalise the decision that could last for years. 4. btw, throughout the whole claiming process, we had to call the garage to get updates and a lot of follow ups

Omg the worst insurance company I have ever come across in my life, seriously would definitely address them as liers or frauds. First of all they labeled our house damage as a gradual damage, (which was not at all a gradual damage)and after few heated arguments with the them, they finally said that if we can get it proved through a qualified builder that it’s not a gradual damage, they Will definitely pay us out for the cost of repair. β€œPETER RYAN” was the person who emailed us this that they would pay us the money if the builder approves that it’s not gradual damage. So now after the builder told the insurance company that it’s definitely not a gradual damage, now they brought in another way of manipulating us and not paying us out saying that the builder doesn’t know where the leak in the house is. These uneducated people don’t know that in order to find a leak they will have to open the whole floor area and check where the leak is. What does the position of the leak has to do with the damage, when it’s not even a gradual damage. These people are such liars and frauds, am gonna take this case to new Zealand media. And also to higher authorities for whatever scam they have been doing with there customers. Such a bad bad bad company (AMI) to get your insurance done. Don’t recommend anyone to come to these people.

one of the worst travel insurance company ever, got insurance for a domestic flight, flight got cancelled and the rest of all the other international flight got cancelled. they claim to provide compensation for all the additional charges due to the cancelation but at the end just sent email that the domestic is refunded. thats all....... insurance is to cover ur unexpected charges from a service recovery

Avoid travel insurance underwritten by AIG (or names like AIG travelassist), many policies are. Especially the easy online ones They will leave you for dead if any problem. Clever use of delay tactics.. checking your medical records, losing your application, not progressing until contacted etc to avoid paying a claim. There's a policy clause saying they won't pay anything unless pre approved, then they delay delay delay until you have to act without the pre-approval, then don't pay out. Certainly they won't help you in any time of need either. I have a friend who needed airlifting and luckily insured elsewhere, this company would never do that for you. Travel can be risky and dangerous, you need a company that will have your back, they are out there. Not this one. They will be great taking your money and when you don't need to claim of course.

Terrible customer services, my Van got stolen and the insurance wrote it off even though the repair was all superficial, they then sent the Campervan with all my personal belongings to a salvage yard over an hour away from my house and expect me to take the day off work to collect my personal items at my expense. Trying to resolve this problem has been a nightmare, will never use AIG again.
