Over the years Family Action have always been there, offering support and guidance for both my daughter and I. We are forever grateful. Staff are extremely friendly and professional. Thank you!
My experience with Family Action has been bad. I met with a social worker, Susan, in May, to discuss my needs. I told her about my situation and she sided with my abuser and also said other people's situations are worse. Two months later, I was contacted by a counsellor, Angela, to arrange a time to meet. Throughout the counselling sessions, the counsellor didn't consider my needs and just kept recommending me solutions that won't work with my health condition. She was acting as an advisor instead of a counsellor. I also felt judged. The social worker, Hannah C. also never took my case seriously. I met with her in May and I'm still not placed in a safe home. She said I'm not eligible to stay at their refuge because apparently my situation isn't "dangerous enough". Overall, my experience with Family Action is just terrible and I wouldn't recommend their services to anyone because they won't help.
You should tell Abbi not to shame parents and continually be on their back about missing sessions. My son gets sick often and even after messaging her to let her know why he can't come she continues to tell me he needs to continually attend them. My child being sick is out of my control and I can't help it if we miss sessions. I brought him in today sick, because all Abbi worries about is him attending. Then she calls to tell me she can't work with a sick child. What do you want from me ? You complain that he doesn't show up enough and seems you don't believe me when i tell you he cant attended due to being sick then put pressure on me to bring him in. Then I do and you still complain. Oh and you guys should sort put a proper complaint system instead of flogging me off the nearest manager who can't even answer their phone.
Highly recommend Family Action as there was a huge waiting list for counselling. Larah was simply fantastic in that she rung me every week and cared! Very helpful, knowledgeable and supportive.
Go to them if you don't love your family. If you want Oranga tamariki and police, lawyers, courts involved this is the place to go otherwise stay away.
Awful would not recommend. I went to them with childhood cptsd and multiple other mentail disorders and they gave me absolutely nothing. They claim to be professionals about trauma but they don’t know how to deal with anything. I saw two of them Anihera and Ingrid and they are both just as bad and I bet the rest of the batch is just as rotten. They seriously need to find a new job that actually benefits society because theyre doing more harm than good. No wonder so many people’s mental health is getting worse than better with such bad mental service.
Family action provided absolutely no support for me. They asked how I was coping and I told them about all the struggles I was facing and was told they couldn’t help me. Just wasted my time and caused unnecessary hurt
