My first visit to Te Whaea - National Dance & Drama Centre was on a particularly wet and dreary Wellington day, but the reason for my visit was a bright one: SlavFest 2025. This wonderful celebration of Slavic culture was the perfect event to experience within this lovely building. The facility itself is spacious and thoughtfully laid out, with an appealing arty vibe that feels both professional and inspiring. It was a genuine pleasure to spend time among like-minded people, all enjoying the performances under one roof. A very practical bonus is its excellent connection to the city, with a bus stop conveniently located right outside, making access easy and eliminating any worry about parking. Despite the unpleasant weather waiting outside, the wonderful time spent inside at Te Whaea left me in high spirits. Itβs a fantastic venue that certainly left a lasting positive impression.

I came here for a choir practice. This is a fairly large facility with lots of different rooms/spaces used for various art forms, e.g. Drama and dance. It really is very good. Many many years ago it was a large open space used as an exhibition hall.

A fantastic facility for a dance conference incorporating a central plaza as a gathering space, many multipurpose studios for lessons or rehearsal and a few seriously good performance spaces. The well-designed building also has excellent car parking areas and loading zones.

Attended an absolutely amazing end of term play. The activity across the stage was riveting and captivating. One of the best plays i have ever had the privilege of attending. Time flew and the young actors displayed skill beyond their years.

Te Whaea is the home of the New Zealand School of Dance and Toi Whakaari, NZ Drama School. Converted into a magnificent architecturally-designed performing arts centre, it has five professional dance studios, six drama studios, 200 seat theatre production design and costume workshops and New Zealand's best performing arts library. It is one of the most impressive performance training facilities in the world.
