I am writng this review to let you all know that they are fraudulent in terms of what they present you at the time of insurance and what they put in fine print of policy so you do not know. In my case they came up with excess amount of $800, whereas market standard excess is not more than $500. Also, their claim team is very rude, non professional, and non understanding. Please be aware of taking vehicle insurance from ASSURANT. Your damage might have been total of less than $500 dollars and they will charge you $800 to 1200 in excess. If there is zero star rating, i will give them zero. Update: one of their team member on my 2nd email of asking why they didn't provide excess of $800 to $1200 during quotation and put it secretly somewhere in fine prints because no one will read them. The answer is " Do you want to close your claim?" Here you go with the one of the worst customer service. Is not it threatening?

My experience with Portecta Insurance has been appalling. After spending over $5,000 with this company, I feel completely misled and will never use them again. I got off the phone and felt sick about what had just happened. I was explicitly told the excess for the issues raised would be $300. That turned out to be false, it was actually $300 per issue, pushing the excess to $900. This is not a minor misunderstanding, I had a very clear recollection of what was discussed, it is materially misleading information. When I challenged this, the call taker responded with a flippant, arrogant and patronizing analogy about buying tyres, rather than addressing the fact I had been given incorrect advice, as far as I was concerned his attitude was dismissive and unprofessional. I also provided an email stating that hinges were covered under a particular part of the policy. The response was simply “they’re not,” with no explanation, no accountability, and no attempt to reconcile their own written communication. The entire interaction had a very scammy like feel, unclear advice up front, shifting explanations later, and zero ownership when challenged. Customer service appeared more focused on deflecting responsibility than resolving the issue. I strongly recommend others think very carefully before spending their money with Portecta. I certainly won’t be again.

Avoid if possible, ambiguous and missing conditions on mechanical breakdown insurance means NO signature from us. You're better off with CGA in NZ in my opinion.

Awful processing time, was told by NZTA to never choose this insurance ever again. Asked me to deregister my own car yet assessor wrote it off excuse was because I was retaining the car but yet insurance is obligated to deregister the car if it’s a write off. Never took my car to quote repairs to repair shop but quoted car visually as a write off. If I had a lot of money I would have sued this company will never recommend these guys to anyone. Called to get an update on settlement and was told only two people were in the office and that they were sorry and will be done the next day. Awful insurance will never recommend to my worse enemy.

BUYER BEWARE! Quite possibly the worst customer service in the history of human commerce! If you dream of being treated like a suspect in a low-budget crime drama while chasing your own claim for three months, congratulations—you’ve found the perfect crew of charmingly incompetent bandits at Protecta/Assurant! I’m currently eight weeks deep into a claim, $30,000 lighter, and enjoying a masterclass in radio silence—no updates, no reasons, just vibes. I’m now best friends with the Ombudsman, who’s probably as tired of hearing from me as I am of waiting. For years, I loyally funneled tens of thousands of dollars to Protecta/Assurant, insuring multiple vehicles and singing their praises to friends, family, and customers like a misguided cheerleader. Spoiler alert: my pom-poms are officially retired. Never again. Save your money and your sanity—steer clear of this circus.

WARNING!!! We foolishly agreed to Protecta Insurance via the car sales company when purchasing a car. The car was recently hit from behind when stationary, and we'll have to borrow money to replace the vehicle. The reason? The car has increased in value since we bought it, and Protecta SUBTRACTED A YEARS WORTH OF PREMIUMS FROM THE CLAIM. Yes, you read that right. Protecta have it written in the fine print, they can subtract up to 12 months worth of premiums from the claim even if the accident was caused by someone else. An insurance broker confirmed we would have been better off without insurance, as we could claim the full amount from the other driver. Protecta have no interest in approaching the other driver's insurer to reimburse the difference. Never again.

Recently my car was stolen dri ven round thrashed dented b4 it was found and thes guys helped me i was insured full car insurance with them. And apart from the fact they are closed in the weekends except for emergencies they were awesome, no long waits, great to deal with ...assessed my car quickly once it was found, the assessor was really nice understood gave advice where he could.. Thats where im at now. Check amt u get paid for total loss...6 mth or so ago i said my car value 10000 but sum insured is 6800 so some where it got changed... i think they set it at "relacement value or something..." Ive found a car similar to mine for 10000 so im going to show them and see what happens.
