It was a great experience. I studied Legal Executive course and I must tell that the whole set was very well designed, very comprehensively laid out. It was such a joy to study. My tutors (especially Chris McKinzie) who was extremely attentive - answered swiftly, cared about our progress. All I could say is a big thank you to Open Polytechnic.

I was very disappointed with my experience with polytech. There was a lot of talk of help and support— but little follow through. I would save yourself the time and frustration and enrol elsewhere. When I would finally get the chance to talk to someone, I would be left even more confused and dissatisfied. Talk is so cheap, please don’t waste your time or money with them.

Maths course was pretty difficult to navigate without any actual real support when I got stuck. I don't think this course is possible through a computer and no face to face tutor to explain the equations or the exact way to condense your work into one word document. Tutor refused to mark my assignment as I was unable to submit it in one singular word document but half the tasks were in excel and the other half were in word. So I guess that's pretty funny to reject someone's work that they spent ages doing and struggling along trying to make sense of the course material. Hmmmm, so now I am not on it and have wasted two months of the year.

Pretty dissatisfied with this place. ‘Studied’ 5 papers in total, study is basically a list of YouTube videos and a poorly constructed hand out. Overall the support is non-existent, the content is hard to follow and doesn’t get updated regularly (if at all). My 5th paper was computer aided design, unfortunately my computer had a catastrophic failure and I was unable to complete the paper. When I reached out for assistance or to resit the paper during the next semester I was told the only way to do so was by filling out a complex form with evidence etc and that my reason (computer problems) wasn’t one of the ‘exceptional circumstances’ that would allow a transfer. Basically I would have had to make something up to conform to their minimal list of reasons. Being an extra-mural provider that provides study of a computer based program, technological problems should 100% be a reason for transfer, but good luck finding a person that cares. In the end, I just withdrew from the paper as there wasn’t a staff member in the place that actually cared. They kept the money (which is all they care about) and I will be ceasing my study. I would advise against studying here as most of my study time was spent trying to work out what I needed to study.

Business communication course. Never in a thousand years, I would have expected to be forced to do a business course inside a mental health subject. I accepted it because like everyone that signs up to distance learning, you feel you cant be too choosy. I did the first assignment with trying motivation. It's so painful to learn something you are not passionate about especially when you're an established adult and when you know this is not right! I gave up today because second assignment was becoming abusive. The second assignment involved group virtual meetings which I still would have accepted if it was more tailored to what I had signed up to! It had involved creating LinkedIn profiles and CVs and the instructions were exhausting. I dont want a LinkedIn profile for everyone to see. It's like saying you must have an Instagram account to pass this course! I deal and work on people every day but this requirement was becoming a joke. Funny thing is, I would have accepted doing this course if it were at least the 5th or 6th mandatory course not the first one! When you introduce a business communication course inside a beautiful discipline such as psychology, expect a lot of people to be put off!! What were they thinking?! Is this even a real institution!

Agree with the other reviewer. Currently in the same exact position. Your asked ridiculous things that are not included on any of the assignments, very little Administration work at all. More so how to meet and greet people, in depth. Describe what you would do with someone that wants information and brochures for a hour. Ridiculous.

I would avoid undertaking business Administration course BUS301 at the moment. While the online learning program is excellent, I have found the assessments very poorly written. The assessment criteria used to mark students asks for content not even in the exam! I have raised a complaint with the OP and NZQA. Just failed assignment 2 (twice) (and that’s after seeking clarification) and now they have suggested I enrol on the next course. My lecturer tells me the assignments are currently being ‘reviewed’. Total shambles and shameful way to treat students.
